TRACY JORDAN'S REVENGE: We didn't notice this last night, and it's worth a separate post--while Parker/Stone remain O short of EGOT, the Book of Mormon win for Best Musical Show Album does give producer Scott Rudin an EGOT, with an Oscar for producing No Country For Old Men (and a ton of other nominations), a 1984 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Childrens' Program, and 7 Tonys--all for producing, including Passion, The History Boys, Doubt, and Book of Mormon.

  1. First new member of the club since Whoopi Goldberg in 2002, and given the dubiousness of her honor (daytime Emmy, really?), first since 2001 when Mel Brooks and Mike Nichols made it.

  2. The Daytime Emmy for her doesn't bug me as much as the producing Tony win.  As a general rule, I think to be a "true" EGOT, they need to all be in the same basic field (writing, producing, performing).

  3. Nichols' Grammy is for performing (Comedy); the other three are all for directing/writing.

I'm guessing that Rudin's three non-G wins are all in the producing category, but can you help me out on the musical-theater grammy nomination?  He obviously didn't produce the album in the recording-industry sense (i.e., he did not Babyface Edwards or Steve Albini or Butch Vig or Mark Ronson or Mutt Lange or Peter Grant it).  Does it make sense for the producer of a musical to get credit on the cast album?

  5. The official awards description would suggest that you did have to Albini the thing to win. I join you in calling SHENANIGANS!

Did they misspell "revue"? Can this be the basis for a wacky comedy about a newspaper critic winning a Grammy for a show he panned?
