ENJOY EVERY SANDWICH:  Warren Zevon would have turned 65 today; he's now been gone from us for over eight years. Here's "Roland, the Headless Thompson Gunner," and, oh, his appearance on a particularly cursed episode of The Larry Sanders Show.

There are many wonderful reason to love Warren Zevon, but one of my favorites is his kinship with my favorite baseball player of all time, Bill Lee.

"You're supposed to sit on your ass and nod at stupid things / Man, that's hard to do." I've always considered that an inspirational verse for my life. Along with this: "I'm gonna hurl myself against the wall / Because I'd rather feel bad than not feel anything at all."

I've mentioned this before in these parts, but I saw Warren play at the old Chestnut Cabaret in West Philly on my 20th birthday, and he and his band were just wonderful.  Great showman at a great, closely packed venue - one of the more memorable birthday celebrations of my life.  The show I saw is among the 18 Zevon shows available (as I learned from Adam B. sometime last year) at Archive.org's live music archive.
