I GOT A ROCK:  The creepy and kooky Addams Family theme (or the lesser-regarded Addams Family Groove), or do you prefer the rockin' surf guitar that is The Munsters theme music?  Yes, it is Halloween once more, and for once let's not talk about the aspects of our popular culture which are actually scary but those which look at the grotesque and morbid with delight and whimsy, from the days when ghosts were friendly and a blind Gene Hackman just wanted to teach Victor Frankenstein's monster about the benefits of fire.

Also, braaaaaaaiiinnns.

I like them both, but surf guitar almost always gets the edge.

Aw, nuts, who had Adam in the first-to-go-zombie pool?

    (Surf rock all the way.)

    Munsters, definitely.

As you can probably tell from many of my past comments, I've always been a big horror movie fan. And especially a big fan of makeup effects.  So with that, may I recommend a few old clips of FX whiz Tom Savini guesting on Letterman:

    Circa 1986
    Circa 1984-85 (lousy audio quality)
    Circa 1987

I know he had a couple more appearances, but I haven't been able to find them on the interwebs (or the full versions of the earliest and latest clips above).

I know I stand alone on this (or at least in the distinct minority) but there is no aspect of The Munsters that is better than The Addams Family to me.  Addams FTW, every single time.

John "Gomez" Astin taught at/wandered around (and still does, I believe) my college, so yeah, Addams Family.

Were I coming to both shows as an adult, or even as an older kid, I would probably be inclined to agree, Meghan (though I would still agree with Guest above that surf guitar gets the edge).  But 7-year-old me found The Munsters far more slapsticky and hilarious, and the die was cast - by the time I might have been more likely to appreciate the different sensibility of TAF, I had already moved on to other stuff.

I always loved the creepy quiet camp of the Addams Family more than the Munsters.  I'd be hard-pressed to pick a theme song I liked better of the two, however.

Also (we may have discussed this here before, but still):  Canadian mathematicians evaluate our options in the event of a zombie apocalypse (PDF).  I'd say this is what Jenner whispered to Rick in the first season finale of The Walking Dead, but they know not of pop culture zombies in that universe, so their modeling would have had to use vastly different assumptions.

The (snap! snap!) in the Addams theme is so...snappy. The surf guitar in the Munsters theme is so...groovy. Can't I have them both?
