FREE SY SNOOTLES:  Some folks are adamant about restoring the disco sensation "Lapti Nek" to the Blu-ray release of Return of the Jedi, as part of the general frustration regarding George Lucas's refusal to let fans see the original theatrical versions of the trilogy -- in which Han shot first.

I hope this doesn't come off as self-promotion, but I wrote about this issue (in part) in a short essay here: http://www.brightlightsfilm.com/72/72wizardofoz_sewell.php.
I wonder what people here think about the 'fan edits' of the films. I've seen a few, and the best of them are really impressive. If I were showing Star Wars to somebody who'd never seen it, I would pick the best of the fan edits over anything Lucas is willing to sell us. The fan edits do a better job, to me, of capturing my experience of seeing Star Wars in 1977.

Good god, I have never seen the Greedo shoots first or the bluesy re-do in Jabba's palace versions before.  Those are appalling.

One more reason to hang onto my DVD (and VHS!) versions of the real original trilogy.

Years from now, when the Federal Government has simply subcontracted law enforcement powers to the RIAA, we will be taking our grandsons into dusty basements to watch original prints of Star Wars to explain to them that this was indeed how things were Before the Dark Times . . .before the Empire.
