RES IPSA: Acai berries -- miracle or scam? I'm going with scam. Miracles don't advertise with Symantec-immune pop-under ads.

While completing my MBA a year and a half ago, the university brought in an alumni who ran a business. This business was selling the mixes you add to bottled water, except his featured "get two servings of vegetables with just one mix!" sort of thing. We got these trial samples (terrible, by the way... I have stories). Anyway, he was most proud of his newest product, the acai berry that provided two servings of fruit in just one mix. He swore by the stuff. I'm not sure if acai berry is actually useful or healthy for a person at all. But I do know whoever is in charge of the marketing for that berry is doing it no favors through both the pop-under ads and this alumni/drink mix dude.

Why would anybody want two servings of fruit in just one mix?  I eat gigantic amounts of fruit -- ask Spacewoman about my grape and satsuma intake -- and I'm perfectly happy with getting my two (or ten) servings of fruit in just two (or ten) servings of fruit.

What Isaac said, because really?  Are folks really struggling with their fruit intake?

I'll admit that I don't eat nearly any fruits and veggies during the day. But I could easily solve that problem by just buying an apple. Or eating one. I'm definitely not going to (as this guy claimed) have a balanced meal at breakfast by drinking three bottles of water with mixes (one fruit, one veggie and one energy sort of thing).

I feel that the Brazil government devoted millions of dollars in marketing help to help rid their jungle of those pesky berries.
