LIKE HUGH HEFNER, ONLY WITH MUCH LESS DRY HUMPING AND BABY OIL: After north of 16,000 hours on television, Regis Phibin will leave our airwaves later this year. Any question that Ryan Seacrest is pretty much now the unquestioned go to hosting/emcee figure of our day?

  1. You mean it won't be Ricky Gervais?

Seacrest is so good at what he does, and at hiding the effort it takes to do it.  He's going to be around for a very, very long time.

Can we get Ben Bailey from Cash Cab to be involved in more stuff? I have a feeling he'd be good for a broader audience (30 Rock was a start).

Did you know that Regis Philbin holds the world record for most hours on network television (or something like that)? I learned that when I was watching a recap of the year on Live and they were trying to set some new crazy records. I remember when Kelly stepped in after Kathy Lee and all I thought was "Who is this?" and "Wow...she's not gonna last." Boy was I wrong. And I do like her. To think that I thought Kathy Lee Gifford couldn't be replaced??? What was I on?

  6. I love Regis. I know it's completely geeky but I just do. I find him entertaining. So much so that I'm going to see his song and dance show in a couple of months. I'm making my dad go with me. It's probably a safe bet that I'll be the only person under 40 (heck, under 60) in that room.

Any guesses on who will take over as co-host? I'm hoping they do an extended audition process that lasts just long enough for Anderson Cooper's new daytime show to fail so he can become the co-host. He's one of the few who can hold his own against Kelly Ripa -- who I enjoy but who has a tendency to monopolize that host chat time with the wrong guest co-host. NPH is another but that's not going to happen. Just please not Howie Mandel or Jeff Probst.

  7. Especially if Survivor holds its own against Idol, this gives Probst tremendous leverage in contract negotiations.  His Survivor contract is up at the end of this season, and they will assuredly want to resign him, and he can't do Survivor and Live, and can play the two off each other.

  8. I second the vote for Anderson Cooper-just wait until his other show fails so he can do this show.  He is a great guest host with Kelly.  They took this show off the market here in SA in favor of who knows what but I am still sad.  I like Regis and Kelly.  I love me some Anderson Cooper.
