LIKE "RIGHT NOW, DAVID WISHES HE HAD HIS OLD JOB BACK": Great Music Crit Moments on "Beavis and Butt-Head," The Seven Worst U.S. Number One Singles of the 1990s ("Informer," "Have You Ever Loved A Woman?"), Things Meat Loaf Would Do For Love and many other joyful time-wasters fill Pitchfork's random assortment of other music/culture lists of the 1990s.

  1. 1.  "One Week" does not belong on any "awful songs" list.
    2.  How can "Regulate" not make the list of songs with movie samples in them?  "Regulators!  Mount Up!"
    3.  "Soup" didn't kill Blind Melon's career--they were likely doomed to one hit status after "No Rain," but the death of the lead singer (right after "Soup" came out) sealed the deal.  (Likewise "Fairweather Johnson" didn't kill Hootie--they've continued to tour and Rucker now has a successful solo career.)
    4.  At some point, I'm going to write my long post about how Everclear's "Songs From An American Movie, Vol. 1," is just a great damn album, and that one of their videos (from an earlier album) gave Christina Hendricks her first break adds to the case.

  2. (1), above,  is incorrect.

Did we ever solve the mystery of Dave Pirner's charisma?

Kennedy is a Republican?  I'm making no political comment, just that a) the name and the political affiliation is funny and b) I wouldn't have figured.

Am I alone in thinking it's actually pretty awesome, and not lame at all, that the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack got a best album nomination?

I miss Beavis and Butthead so much.  "Dude, you could just change the channel."  "Why should I have to change?  She's the one that sucks!"

Wow, huge miss on the MTV unplugged list- 1992, Eric Clapton, Tears in Heaven. I was 10 when it came out and I remember sitting in my living room with my weeping mother, watching this and having her explain the background to me. I still get sad watching it.
