THIS WILL NOT GET HIM HIS THIRD PIECE OF THE EGOT: You know how much we love Justin Timberlake around here as musician, SNL host and most-likely-to-succeed-for-a-long-damn-time superstar. Well, the trailer for Yogi Bear: In 3D, with him voicing Boo Boo and Dan Aykroyd as the lead (and a live-action Anna Faris), squanders a little bit of that goodwill.

Next month will mark four years since the release of his last album, FutureSex/LoveSounds, which was only his second solo work. Enough dabbling; if he's not going to join Studio 8-H full time, it's time to get him back making music.

Christina, even before seeing the credits, made the excellent point that the Boo Boo voice is much better than the Yogi.  Damning with faint praise, perhaps, but there's that.

  2. I am very much okay with everything I've seen for Yogi. The thing about Yogi is, there's no deep, heartwarming tale at the center of the original story that I feel anyone's exploiting, like the adoption story of Alvin & tC. The cartoon was just a bunch of crazy plots to get picnic baskets, and it looks like the movie is not much more than that. It's like a movie-length Road Runner movie. If the movie turns out to be something not at all like the cartoon (Yogi heads to the big city!) then I'd be upset. But this seems innocuous enough, and fairly faithful to the source.

    Plus, that's a hell of a Boo-Boo impression.

  3. I'm more interested in the concept of a Timberlake EGOT.  He's missing OT, and were I a betting man, I'd expect him to pick up an Oscar for original song in the not-too-distant future (if there's one in "Social Network," would seem a likely bet for a nomination).  The interesting thing for me is a Tony--do we think he wins one as a performer, producer, or composer?  If the former, is there a classic role that he can/should think about assaying?

Is it wrong that I want him and Joseph Gordon Levitt to star in the revival of "Singin' in the Rain"?

Yes, I would like to see Timberlake perform The Tango Maureen.

lisa, there's an interesting idea; leaving aside JGL's SNL, who do you cast in what part?   Timberlake wouldn't be a bad choice for the O'Connor part either.

I guess I never thought of JGL as Gene Kelly-suave, which JT definitely is. But JT can be endearingly goofy and energetic. And now that I think about it, Anna Faris could be a good Lina. Who's Kathy? Sutton Foster?

Does the tag at the bottom really--I mean really--say that?! Wow.

Along the same lines, what about JT and JGL doing a stage version of "Some Like it Hot"?

  11. Wow, Lisa, if loving that idea is wrong, I don't want to be right...

And for Kathy, how about Megan Hilty, from 9 to 5?

Yep.  Scary, eh?  (Really, every studio needs a panel of 15-year-old boys to look at their advertising materials.)
