I LIKED IT BETTER WHEN MEGASHARK WAS INVOLVED: If you were guessing which major movie release this weekend were getting the best reviews, would you go with the one based on a Jeffrey Eugenides short story, the one starring and written by a person who's won Academy Awards for both writing and acting, or the one about giant mutant fish eating half-naked co-eds starring Elisabeth Shue, Jerry O'Connell, Jessica Szohr, and Adam Scott? The answer (at least as of now), may surprise you.

The EW article on Pirhana 3D was awesome. Actually made me kind of want to see it, though I never will.

I cannot wait to see Piranha.  I think it looks awesome in a totally "we get that this movie is not an Oscar-winner" way.  The Funny or Die sketch where the cast lobbies for an Oscar for it is also very funny.

Does Elisabeth Shue get to make out with her co-stars?

  4. You really miss out on that in nursing.

I almost blogged about this a few days ago.  Very nice to see people in Hollywood willing to acknowledge in a healthy and good-natured way that not every movie they make is a work of art.  You would not see Joe Ezsterhas approving that kind of thing about his own very similar work.

I don't see a lot of movies in theaters anymore.  I would very much like to see P3D in a theater.

And if you don't like it, Adam Scott will come to your house and act out scenes for you. You must, of course, provide an Elisabeth Shue look-a-like for him to do the scenes with, peanut M&Ms, and the location of the nearest Red Roof Inn. He won't be staying there, but he likes to know where it is. http://www.avclub.com/articles/adam-scott-promises-to-pay-a-visit-to-anyone-who-d,44398/

  8. If you like the looks of Piranha, you might also consider SiFi's "Sharktopus":

I hear it's the new "Mansquito".

If I see this movie I will see it because of Adam Scott. I love him more & more every day.

Oh, I'm on it - not to worry. I hope it will be everything that "Sharks in Venice" [Italy!] failed to be.

Mansquito was unrecognized genius.  I still remember a blurb about it in EW the week it was first shown; the reviewer had a great time with the awesome cheesiness of it all.  My husband and I still use as a catchphrase from the blurb: "It flies!  Mansquito flies!" to mean anything that is awesome/hilarious/unbelieveable.

  12. The scariest thing in Sharks In Venice (I watched the last 8 minutes two years ago while waiting for something or other to come on) was Stephen Baldwin's corset.  It was sub-shatnerian in it's obviousness.

  13. I believe that blurb began "Sure, there are better things you could watch tonight, but none of them are called 'Mansquito.'"

I wouldn't even know how to find destiny's balls.

I can't do the 3-d thing because it gives me migraines. Which I haven't been sad about until now. I would love to see P3D.

And even Bateman can't get me to see the new Jennifer Anniston movie. I want to like her, I really do... but she just seems like she hasn't done a different, interesting part since The Good Girl.

The truly greatest thing about SiV was that they somehow managed to retcon -- within a 90-some minute running time, mind you -- Baldwin's leg back onto his body after they painted themselves into an early "plotting" corner.  (The solution:  they just didn't acknowledge the earlier scene at all!  Pretended it never happened!)

And yes, I did just set up a TiVo Wishlist entry because the airdate for Sharktopus is still too far off.  (It's Saturday, September 25 at 9pm, for those of you who wish to mark your calendars.  In ink!  Ha!)

Saw it tonight.  Calliekl, the 3-D didn't add a whole lot.  However, that does not take away from the incredible fantastic awesomeness of this movie.  I haven't laughed so hard at a movie in awhile.  So, so fabulous.
