HERE AM I, YOUR SPECIAL ISLAND -- COME TO ME, COME TO ME: Set your TiVos, all: the Paulo Szot/Kelli O'Hara revival of South Pacific airs live on your local PBS affiliate this Wednesday. Matthew Morrison is unavailable as Lt. Cable, but Danny Burstein makes a hell of a Luther Billis. Simply put, American musical theater gets no better than this production:

I love being able to program my TiVo from the internet. Recording now scheduled. Thanks!

I love Danny Burstein - still listen to my soundtrack of "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change."

  3. TiVo/Internet is so 2008; I've got the Blackberry app, and it's flawless.

What tv won't be able to capture, I fear, is just how perfect the thrust staging is.

With the acknowledgment that theater is emphemeral, and such is its special magic, etc., etc., I think it's a terrible shame so little of it is ever broadcast to wide audiences. Glad this production will be. It's woooonderful.

  5. Indeed, and we've talked aobut this before.  Every Broadway show should be filmed with its original cast for DVD/VOD release.  They've depriving themselves of so much revenue.

  6. Most shows are filmed for the performing arts library at Lincoln Center, but they have very restricted access.  Also, especially for short run shows, they don't want to give up the 50ish seats you need to give up for a production crew to film the show.

That said, more and more are doing filming before closing night and releasing it to PBS/DVD.

When I can properly read and comment on ALOTT5MA from my Blackberry, I'll worry about using the TiVo app.

Aye!  I was telling Christina about Into The Woods last night (since we're up to the Joanna Gleason section of West Wing), so I'm glad there is a DVD available of it.

Most of the time, I can't get to the comments. Links simply don't click. It works about 1 time out of 10.
