GOOD ENOUGH: Twenty-five years ago today, a little film named The Goonies was released. Thousands have descended upon the Oregon town in which it was filmed to celebrate. Yes, somewhere in Astoria, someone's doing the Truffle Shuffle today.

If it still exists, those people should all eat at the Columbia Cafe.

I love Goonies, but never quite understood the theme song. Goonies R Good Enough? the Goonies are way better than "Good Enough"!

Great article and photo gallery. G-d gave her the Goonies house. Unreal.

    1) I love the Goonies. I have watched that movie hundreds of times, and can quote most of it by heart.
    2) When we were planning our honeymoon, the husband and I briefly talked about going to Astoria. We ended up in Hawaii, which was amazing, but there's still a tiny part of me that kinda wishes we had stuck to Astoria.
    3) I am full of ENVY that the owner opened the house for this event. Normally you can drive to the bottom of the driveway, but they ask that you don't come up the driveway or approach the house.
    4) "The next time you see sky, it'll be in some other town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now they've gotta do what's right for them because it's their time, THEIR TIME, up there. Down here it's our time, it's OUR time down HERE! That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket." Sigh. Love.

    Love.

This movie marks the exact pop cultural divide between me and the husband, who is 4 years older.  We each cannot even fathom the other's position on it.

Here in L.A. there's a company that shows movies during the summer projected on a mausoleum wall at the Hollywood Froever cemetery. Classics, to modern classics to cult classics, it's walways a variety and people come and picnic and enjoy. It's always fun, but when they showed Goonies last year it was the BEST. People reciting along, bursting into applause at the line Calliekl mentioned above and others. It was a perfect environment to enjoy one of my favorite movies.

Goonies is being played in several parks here in Chicago this summer.  I can't remember which ones.

I heart you today! I will *always* love this movie. My Dad and I used to quote this like crazy! :)

  8. My husband was remarking on that exact same "generation gap" between himself and a very close friend (about four years younger) who agree on almost all other things entertainment related.

I think I'm with Isaac here and probably for the same sub-generational issue.  I remember seeing the movie in the theater and enjoying it -- but I am quite certain I have never seen it since.  This is not to say I don't both get and approve the nerdy devotion to it, but it's just not quite my movie.

CallieK: This is for you especially, but I hope anyone else enjoys it. Guess who sent it? My Dad. :) I told we love this movie! I can't wait for the better release at the end of the year. :)
