THE CONFIRMATION PROCESS IS MADE UP OF TWO SEPARATE, YET EQUALLY IMPORTANT PARTS: The selection of a nominee to serve on the Supreme Court, which will be handled by folks in the Justice Department, and the confirmation before the Senate, which will be headed up by (you can't make this up, folks), former Senator and current Law and Order: Original Recipe DA Fred Thompson, who's apparently decided that since he doesn't have Trial By Jury to do any more, he can do this. No word on if Sam Waterston, Jill Hennessy, or Michael Moriarity are being considered to fill the vacancy.
